Psalms 139:8- “If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, thou art there.” This verse came to my remembrance as I was walking across the street today through the scattered rain and snow. You know, sometimes days are filled with sorrow and care, and for me, that was today. Sometimes, there may not even be a justifiable reason for such feelings of sadness or depression, and perhaps, those feelings might be the feelings of others that we are experiencing and need to pray for, but today, I was reminded- He is there!
Lest there be any confusion as to WHO the “He” is, that is the Lord Jesus Christ. He did say before ascending up to heaven, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” What a blessed thought! This world is so full of sadness. Any recent attempts to relax and watch something on television has met with a swift kick in the face by the reality of just how wicked TV has gotten. Today, even Nickelodeon had to have social justice nonsense on the commercials for my son to see, and so we turned it off.
The connection between our Bible believing souls and this present evil world is being continuously and emphatically severed. And the more that severing becomes prevalent, the more we are hated by the “god of this world,” Satan himself. Thankfully, we are also LOVED all the more by our precious Savior. I have often wondered what it would take for Christians to fall more in love with the Lord Jesus, what would make them sing louder, what would make them love the brethren deeper? Obviously, we need to suffer the reproach of the world for our love for Him. In so doing, we share in that “fellowship of sufferings” that, honestly, there can be no substitute for.
Living by faith in Jesus above, trusting, confiding in his great love. From all harm safe in his sheltering arm, I’m living by faith, and I feel no alarm. Those are the blessed words of a hymnwriter, but I completely concur. I realize that some “Christians” would say that that is a radical view and perhaps “hardcore,” but I speak that to THEIR shame, not mine! Where ever I am at, whatever I am going through, praise the Lord, HE is there!
